The Past Simple is the tense we use to talk about completed actions in the past. It’s clear, direct, and confident—just like a storyteller recounting an unforgettable tale.


🔹 Example: “I traveled to Paris last year. We met a wonderful guide who told us fascinating stories about the city!”


📌 The Structure of the Past Simple:Affirmative: Subject + verb (+ed for regular verbs)


  • I visited London last summer.

  • She watched a great film yesterday.Negative: Subject + did not (didn’t) + base verb

  • I didn’t visit London last summer.

  • She didn’t watch a film yesterday.Questions: Did + subject + base verb?

  • Did you visit London last summer?

  • Did she watch a film yesterday?


📜 Act 2: When Do We Use the Past Simple?


The Past Simple is used for:


Completed actions in the past – These are events that happened and ended at a specific time.


  • I met my best friend in 2010.

  • She won the competition last year.


A sequence of events in a story – We use the Past Simple to describe actions that happened one after another.


  • First, we arrived at the hotel. Then, we checked in. Later, we explored the city.


Past habits or states – Things that were true in the past but are no longer true now.


  • When I was a child, I played outside every day.

  • They lived in Spain for five years.


🔹 Example Story: “Last summer, we went on a cruise. The sun was shining, and the ocean sparkled. Suddenly, a dolphin jumped out of the water, and everyone gasped!”
